Modern Pentathlon WA is running the Inaugural W.A. Modern Pentathlon/Tetrathlon State Championships in Perth on May 6 and 7.
There will be a range of events from the full Pentathlon to a Triathlon with athletes from around the country coming to try their hand, horse and epee against our own Pentathletes.
The events include:

Tetrathlon (Pony Club Style) – Ride, Swim, Run, Shoot (Laser Pistols 10m)

Dear Fencers and Fencing Families,
Even though you might not have thought about your child fencing in a national competition before, this year FencingWA is hosting the 2017 Australian Cadet and U15 Championships. I competed in my first national championships when cadets were in Perth in 2010. I had only ever fenced one state competition and was wearing someone else’s whites, but it was a fantastic introduction to the sport at a national level for me and my parents.

The entry system is now in place for the first Cadet (U17) and Junior (U20) events of the year, to be held on 11, 12 and 19 February, see the Calendar page for details.
For the first weekend’s events, entries will close later than usual: normal entries close 10 PM Tuesday 7 February and late entries 10 PM Thursday 9 February. Subsequent event entries will close on Sunday and Wednesday as usual.

The Calendar 2017 FINAL DRAFT document has been used to set up the online competition calendar, which should be considered the authoritative source for dates, times and locations. All queries regarding the calendar should be directed to the Tournament Director.
At the awards ceremony on 4 December, President Hugh McCrackan highlighted the achievements of WA fencers at national and international level. WA fencers brought home a total of 22 Australian and International Championships for WA fencers and teams, plus 34 other Australian and International podium placings.

The 2016 Curtin University Sports Awards were held on the 10th of November at the Curtin Stadium. This prestigious event recognizes outstanding achievements from amongst the many clubs and hundreds of athletes associated with Curtin University and Curtin Stadium.

FencingWA has amended the competition entry policy to allow for on the day entries. Super late entries will be accepted from 10pm on the Wednesday night before the competition up until roll call.
It is important to have an accurate list of entrants well in advance of the event in order to allow for allocating referees, setting up the events, starting on time, etc. On-the-day entries have not been allowed since 2015 and this has been enforced progressively more strictly. WA’s fencers continued to impress at national level in the recent Australian Junior Championships in Brisbane, with four top eight finishes, two team silvers and an individual bronze.
Nikita Mawhirt brings home a bronze for Women’s Epee after a strong performance in the pools and DEs.
The Women’s Epee team (Emma Johnson, Isabel Longbottom, Alanah Maclaurin and Nikita Mawhirt) earned silver with a hard-fought 40-45 against NSW A, while the Women’s Sabre team (Emma Johnson, Nikita Mawhirt and Freya North-Hickey) also took silver in their final against NSW A.
