WA’s fencers continued to impress at national level in the recent Australian Junior Championships in Brisbane, with four top eight finishes, two team silvers and an individual bronze.

Nikita Mawhirt brings home a bronze for Women’s Epee after a strong performance in the pools and DEs.

The Women’s Epee team (Emma Johnson, Isabel Longbottom, Alanah Maclaurin and Nikita Mawhirt) earned silver with a hard-fought 40-45 against NSW A, while the Women’s Sabre team (Emma Johnson, Nikita Mawhirt and Freya North-Hickey) also took silver in their final against NSW A.

Emma Johnson showed her versatility with a 6th in Women’s Sabre, 19th in Women’s Epee and 17th in Women’s Foil; Freya North-Hickey worked hard for a 5th in Women’s Sabre; with great finishes from Alanah Maclaurin (5th), Isabel Longbottom (10th) and Sarah James (20th) in Women’s Epee.

For the men, George Dale finished 9th in Men’s Epee, while Tom Harvey earned 25th in Men’s Foil, and Alex Brown 22nd in Men’s Sabre.

Thanks to coach Andrew Scott, and special thanks to Sharon Dale for assistance above and beyond the call of being a fencing parent.

Congratulations to all the WA fencers!  Results are available from the AFF website.
